Speaker: Dr Stuart Archer, Petroleum Geologist
Topic: The Art of Subsurface Assurance: How to Ensure Your Technical Work is Assured
Abstract
Subsurface assurance is an important activity in all oil companies with implications for HSE, technical / economic success and ultimately the reputation of the company. When done well it goes unnoticed, functioning smoothly behind the scenes as part of everyday work (the early days, little and often assurance model) but all too frequently assurance can become a high profile ‘battle ground’ when technical teams and assurers lose the mutual trust and respect that is a pre-requisite for success (the late, hot and heavy assurance model). There is an art to being an assurer as it requires not only experience, technical acumen and the insight to foreshadow potential problems but an ability to work well with people as a technical mentor.
