Abstract
Join Ailsa Quirie from the University of Aberdeen, as she presents her recent research into the ‘phantom volcanoes’ of the North Sea.
The Rattray Volcanic Province in the Central North Sea was previously thought to be sourced from the eruptions of volcanoes during the Jurassic period, however, Ailsa’s research has shown this to be a myth. Her study has proved that instead, there is a huge amount of underexplored gross rock volume present. This could open up opportunities for the exploration of subvolcanic reservoirs and source rocks in a previously overlooked area.
Join the PESGB YPs in hearing about this ground-breaking research from Ailsa which has led to a new geological understanding of the area.
This event is free to attend for all PESGB members.
