Structural Geology – Concepts, Applications & Seismic Interpretation

The course is designed to provide a basic understanding about concepts and applications of structural geology. It will teach the attendee how to recognise structural styles and features on seismic data and in outcrop, and how to place them into a regional context. We will discuss different tectonic settings, learn about stress and strain at different scales, and apply this to structures interpreted from seismic data as well as outcrops. We will examine seismic interpretation pitfalls and discuss their implications on trap size mapping, fault seal and source rock presence.

Tina’s interest in Geology started in school with the wish to understand how our planet works and how dynamic processes can shape our landscape, climate and the biosphere.  Not much of a fossil hunter, she was instead attracted to fractures and folds in rocks and pavements.

Tina graduated in Geology from Freiberg University in Germany, with an MSc in Structural Geology and Tectonics. During her PhD she focused on seismic interpretation of tight gas reservoirs, structural modelling and sandbox analogue modelling of fault systems.

During the last 12 years Tina has worked for ERCE as Structural Geology Lead, where she has gained experience in many regions worldwide; in this role she has encountered a variety of geological settings and scales ranging from frontier basins to fractured reservoir fields.

Tina is an editorial board member for the Journal of Petroleum Geoscience, and a committee member for the Energy Group of the Geological Society of London.
