Abstract

Just How Do We Count the Beans? An Insight into the Dark and Murky World of Oil and Gas Accounting.

Join the GESGB YPs for an interesting insight into the dark and murky world of Oil and Gas Accounting. We will use real life E&P industry examples to explain how the use of different (and all legal) accounting policies derive quite different end results. Is a dry-hole an asset? How are oil and gas reserves valued in the accounts? Does the balance sheet change as the oil price rises (we wish!!) or falls? Come along and find out the answers to these questions and more.

Speaker Biography

Drew Leitch, Managing Director, MDT International Ltd.

Drew has more than 30 years’ petroleum accounting and operational management experience in the international oil and gas industry. This includes 15 years with Amerada Hess in the UK, Norway, Denmark, Gabon and Brazil.

Drew has had quite a journey since joining MDT in 2004 – from Trainer to Managing Director to Business Owner. He is lucky in that he gets to combine all three roles these days and have the same passion for sharing knowledge today as he did all those years ago. The international aspect of MDT and the resulting opportunity to meet and work with people from all over the world is quite simply superb.

Outside of work he enjoys the great outdoors; walking, running, landscape photography and golfing (but not at the same time!) and he is a passionate fan of St. Mirren FC and a committed supporter of MDT’s preferred charity – The Gathimba Edwards Foundation.
