Title: How “FAST” Can Help You Make Better and Faster Decisions

Abstract

The use of a standard methodology for economic models has the potential to improve communication between technical, commercial and management teams and facilitate quicker and better decision-making.

Have you ever handed over the data for modeling and barely could understand how that was used effectively when looking at the outcomes? I have felt this pain before! That reminds me of a discussion between a driller and a completion engineer. The driller argued he delivered the well in fewer days than planned, under budget and without incidents – great! The completion engineer otherwise argued the skin came far higher and the well productivity was compromised!

Collaboration between functions is key to delivering the best product that can help decision-makers to exercise it as best as possible based on the knowledge available! Using the FAST Standard for modeling helps to understand what goes into the model, and how calculations are performed and quickly run sensitivity analysis that might drive technical teams to look more in detail at the uncertainties that really matter for a specific project. Also, most of the FAST Standard can be applied to other excel based projects that require collaboration between several people/functions.
