Topic: Sand Injectite Reservoirs – characterisation and static, dynamic and seismic modelling
Presenters: Daniel Holden (Research Assistant) & Matt Brettle (Senior Research Fellow), Sand Injectite Research Group (SIRG), University of Aberdeen
North Sea reservoirs that have been partly or wholly affected by sand remobilisation and injection processes have produced significant recoverable hydrocarbon reserves and remain a key exploration and development target. The key differentiator of these reservoirs is the increased vertical connectivity that exists, due to the presence of sandstone dykes and sills that crosscut stratigraphy.
This presentation will provide a brief overview of SIRG’s work in characterising outcrop analogues/ subsurface data and the static models we build and dynamically test. It will then focus specifically on the challenges of seismic modelling sand injectites, the methods we use, and some selected results from that work to date.
