Course Description

GESGB Training Partner Programme (online) – Seismic Reservoir Characterization Using Inversion Techniques

Facilitator: Izabella Iumasheva, Geophysicist at GeoSoftware

Course overview

During this online course you will gain a deeper understanding of the geophysical theory of inversion and have the opportunity to learn advanced seismic reservoir characterisation techniques. You will learn the critical steps in the seismic reservoir characterisation workflow, from data processing to inversion analysis, and gain knowledge that you can use in your day-to-day projects.

  • Covers both pre-stack and post-stack inversion, with a largely non-mathematical overview of current seismic inversion methods.
  • Demystifies many of the different methods that are used today to invert seismic data.
  • Presentation of several applications of the seismic inversion method to various datasets from around the world.

Course outline

Part 1 | Monday 6 November 2023

The lesson describes importance and benefits of the seismic data conditioning for pre-stack data. After the lesson attendees will understand the theory behind data condition techniques, what workflow to apply dependent on the data and how to QC results.

Part 2 | Wednesday 8 November 2023

This lesson presents a detailed overview of deterministic and stochastic seismic inversion methods, as well as an overview of relevant inversion theory.

Part 2 | Monday 13 November 2023

In this lesson we will discuss how to  analyse combinations of inversion results to describe lithologies and reservoir properties.

Who should attend?

Geophysicists, geologists, engineers and technical staff who want to understand the theory and learn how to apply sophisticated and enhanced techniques.
