Meet the candidates…

Mark Rees

I have spent over 37 years as an earth scientist providing subsurface solutions to a range of clients over the world, but have also taken those skills into renewables, civil engineering and mining sectors.

I joined the Executive Board of PESGB in April 2021 as it was time to share back skills that I had gained over the years. I then became the current treasurer of the GESGB in April 2022.

I have been able to bring valuable management and financial support to the organisation and have been actively involved in the development and guidance to the operational team.

I am standing for another term as treasurer, a key role where we adapt to the evolving energy transition world, and the challenges it brings.

Being in a role takes time to understand all the activities and experiences of the organisation, I wish to continue in the role for another tenure and provide the necessary cross over between the two organisations.

Paul Bellingham

I’m a regional geologist, business developer and explorer with over 20yrs experience across consulting, service companies and operators.

I’m currently working as an advisor with Westwood Energy and prior to that I was Vice President at ION Geophysical for 8yrs leading work on their regional datasets with a particular focus on the Atlantic margins.

Before ION, I was at Hess working exploration projects in Kurdistan, Australia, Ghana and India as well as working in strategy and planning for both production and exploration businesses setting budgets and long-term plans.

Having worked commercial, technical and leadership roles through my career, I’m well versed in balancing strategic objectives with financial reality and have a good knowledge of financial reporting, as such I’m well suited to the treasurer role on GESGB council.

This is an exciting time for the society with a new name and identity, and of course celebrating its 60th year.

I will bring energy and enthusiasm to council to try new ideas, reach new members and support existing members at this pivotal time as the energy industry transitions.
