Wed 26 October 2022

Category: Council, Elections, Membership

The PESGB is a membership society that is governed by the members (through the Council) for the benefit of the wider membership.

The Council play a very active role within the society, their ideas, advice, and support are invaluable.  The changes in the world over the last few years have shaped the society. The focus has been on building long-term sustainability of the PESGB and giving the members a voice in its future.

Nominations for our 2023 council are now closed and it is time to vote for your President Elect.

The role of President Elect is to support the President during their year in office in anticipation of taking on the role in 2024. This includes:

  • Attending the Bimonthly Operational Meetings
  • Organising elections and sitting on the Membership Committee
  • Representing member interests at Council
  • Event liaison with London Young Professionals

Meet the candidates…

Andrea D’Silva

“I’m really grateful for my nomination as President Elect 2023.

With the changing times, our membership has voted for our much-loved society to expand its charitable objects to reflect the mix that we have truly become – subsurface practitioners exploring for not only oil and gas but also many other avenues. We are also awaiting the results on the vote to change the society’s name.

The coming years on council will be fascinating to navigate and something I’m deeply excited about.

As a Geologist with over 14 years global industry experience, the PESGB gives me a sense of belonging to a community. My council experience as Aberdeen Director, DEVEX Chair and Outreach Director increases my confidence that I will be able to deliver to the society what it needs and bring our vision to fruition.

If I get elected as President Elect, I’ll bring to the table, not only my strong unwavering belief in the cause but also my experience as a non-executive director on the current council. I hope to draw upon my robust oil and energy network to help us find the correct balance in energy diversity for our little community with a view to equip us all with the tools we need for the coming decades of the changing face of energy consumption.”

“I’m a geologist with over 30 years’ experience in ‘E&P’, and I believe the society is a couple of years older than me (I’ll let you do the sums!).  Like many longstanding members, the bulk of my professional life has been involved in seeking out conventional petroleum.  I was born in Sydney, Australia and have been fortunate to have worked on a variety of geological challenges from around the world for several companies, including within the UK, where I currently work with CGG as Technical Head of Geology.  I have been a member of PESGB since 2001, where at that time I was working on onshore UK exploration up in the Cleveland and Northumberland basins.  I have been back in the UK since 2019 after working in SE Asia and completing an MBA, and now very happy to be closer to my two daughters who live in Lincolnshire, in addition to having my partner and another daughter living with me in London! My passions outside of work include cinema, cricket, genealogy and travelling.

It would be an honour for me to serve the members of this society as President-Elect.  This great geological community needs to not only continue but grow in number during these exciting but challenging times.  I really love collaboration, sharing knowledge and supporting others, so what an opportunity to put these to good use as a part of the Council, where I could give something back in a ‘pay it forward’ way.  More than ever, we need diverse, passionate, and innovative geoscientists coming into the society.  I absolutely respect the society’s past, and cherish its values, and we certainly need to take those values forward, but in a relevant, sustainable, and engaging way.”
